Classes:
WLC 400 Capstone

JAPN 311 Social Issues in Japan
JF Oberlin Intermediate Japanese 3
MLO 4: Research and Technology
4.1 In JAPN 403 we were introduced to new skills to incorporate in our capstone research process. This helped me find quality scholarly sources for my project, how to develop my capstone topic and also introduced me to how to correctly cite my sources. We had the librarian visit our class to further introduce us to organizational skills for our growing list of sources for our developing capstone. As a person who regularly visits the library I was already very informed about various ways to research for school projects however the new more advanced techniques revealed to me in JAPN 403 assisted in making the research process easier than normal. An example of these organizational skills and research can be seen in my final pre-capstone powerpoint (see 1 below).
4.2 In JAPN 404 we learned how to convert the spoken Japanese we have learned over the course of our education into proper formal essay format. In our textbooks we worked to learn how to convert to academic language (see 5 & 6 below), learned how to read graphs (see 7 below) and also were introduced to the different styles of written Japanese that appear in essays, newspapers and magazines. At J.F. Oberlin I participated in a final project (see 3 & 4 below) which required me to write in this essay style I learned about in JAPN 404. Previous to these classes, I was under the impression that the Japanese I speak in class could just be written as-is in an essay. I realized that just like in the English language we have casual spoken English and academic English for use in school, Japanese has the same conversion. An application of this written essay style Japanese can be found in my final essay for my capstone project below.
4.3 In JAPN 403 and Japanese 3 I also collected data through a survey and analyzed it using charts created from the data which was then presented on a powerpoint. In order to collect this data I had to employ the use of google forms, google sheets and google powerpoint.
